East Hill Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Arrival Procedures

Arrival begins at 9:00 a.m with buses unloading students. Parents may enter the parking loop to drop off their children between 9:05 a.m and 9:10 a.m after all buses have unloaded. Parents must stay in their car at all times. Walkers may arrive at the school at 9:00 a.m. Please do not arrive early or let your child arrive early as there is no supervision until 9:00 a.m. when the doors will be opened. Students that would like breakfast will pick it up upon arrival and eat in their classroom.

Dismissal Procedures

Bus dismissal will begin at 3:15 p.m. Parents can enter the parking lot after all buses have arrived (roughly 3:20 p.m.). Parent  pickup tags, similar to the ones pictured at right, will be provided for all families that indicated the need for afternoon  transportation. Each family will get two car tags with the same number. Students will be provided with a backpack tag with the corresponding number. School staff will be able to easily identify the correct car in the pickup line outside of  school. If a parent is designating someone else to pick up a child on a particular day, it will be up to the parent to make sure they provide that person with the pickup tag. Again, parents must stay in their car at all times unless, of  course, it is necessary for you to help a child get out of their carseat.

We truly appreciate your support with following our arrival and dismissal procedures to keep all students safe. Please do not hesitate to contact the main office at 315-487-4648 with any questions.

Questions & Answers:

Q: What about walkers and students riding bikes?
A: If you are allowing your child to walk or bike home, please send a note to the office. Walkers and bike riders should arrive at 9:00 a.m.

Q: What if my children participate in a carpool?
A: Please contact the office. You will need to provide a written note indicating your permission for your child to  ride in a different car. If the carpool is happening daily, we will provide the children with the same tag number.

Q: What if a tag is lost?
A: Please contact the office.

Q: What if I need to pick up my child early on a given day?
A: Early pick up must occur before 2:45 p.m. so that the buses can enter the parking lot.

Q: What if I selected district transportation but want to pick my child up once in a while?
A: If you typically pick up your child more than twice a month, please contact the office for a tag.

That's a Wrap!

That's a Wrap!
Today is my last day as principal of East Hill Elementary. It is bittersweet for sure. I am really going to miss the staff, the students, and all of the great families that I have had the pleasure of getting to know over the last eleven years. I wish you all the best!

The Dogs of Dismissal
Earlier in the year I had planned to put together a short clip including all of the dogs that I met this year at arrival and dismissal. I didn't get enough to put together a video, but here's what I have!

The Class of 2034
Kindergarten screening was conducted over the last two days. What a bunch of precious children East Hill is getting this fall! Kindergarten Orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 24th at 9:00.
Thank you for your support and for sharing your children with me. Have a great summer!

The Senior Walk!
Every year we look forward to this day, the day when the graduating seniors who attended East Hill come back to visit! They paraded around the front circle and then walked through the building. It's always so much fun! Here are just a few of the many pictures that were taken this morning.
Bells were ringing and the students were clapping

Students cheered as they walked the halls

They looked like giants!

They asked Ms. O'Keefe for toe tokens!

East Hill always remembers Sarah Peek

The whole crew!
Mrs. MacArthur reassembled her 2nd grade class

It's Mrs. Barry's last year too!

East Hill Happenings

I'm Retiring!
My last school picture!
For those of you who have not yet heard, I will be officially retiring at the end of June after eleven years as principal here at East Hill. It is bittersweet for sure. I will miss the students and the staff tremendously, and will miss all of the wonderful families I have met over the years. My husband is also retiring at the end of June. We have purchased a home in Fort Myers, Florida where we plan to spend our winters. We will return to Camillus to enjoy the CNY summers. For now, we will likely spend the majority of our time hiking, biking, swimming, reading, and enjoying live (hopefully) music. I'd like to thank the East Hill staff for always being so amazing, the East Hill PTA for all of the support they have given me over the years, and thank all of the parents who have shared their precious children with me these past eleven years. Everyone will certainly be missed!

Jogathon
The jogathon is the largest East Hill PTA fundraiser of the year. Traditionally held in the fall, it has been moved to the spring due to COVID. This year will be a little different. Students will jog with their classmates during their designated gym time this week. Unfortunately, spectators will not be allowed this year. Donations will be collected exclusively online at this link. The PTA is excited to include all of the East Hill remote learners in the jogathon in their remote gym classes - just visit this link. Additional information was sent home last week. If you have any questions about the jogathon, please email wgehpta@westgenesee.org. Oh - I neglected to mention that the East Hill principal will apparently be slimed if the PTA meets their fundraising goal of $5000!
2018 Jogathon
Positivity Project
This is the final week in the 2020-2021 P2 Calendar. We are focusing on the Other People Mindset. This mindset consists of the five elements intended to help people understand ways to build positive relationships in their lives: identifying and appreciating the good in others, knowing my words and actions affect others, supporting others when they struggle, cheering others' successes, and being present and giving others my attention. For more on the Other People Mindset, click here

Mask Use
You may have heard that the CDC now says it is safe for fully vaccinated people to take their masks off in most indoor settings. The agency was not specific about the wearing of masks in some settings, including schools.  Additionally, the CDC advice does not override mask orders issued by states, counties, or cities. Therefore, students and staff will continue with our mask expectations:
  • Wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth on the bus and in the school, other than during scheduled mask breaks and while seated eating breakfast and lunch. Please remind your children that masks need to cover their nose.
  • Mask breaks will be provided by teachers throughout the day during seated, independent work time.
  • If a student forgets a mask, the district has disposable masks to provide.
If anything changes at the school level regarding masks, we will certainly let you know! Thank you.

Instrument Selection for 3rd & 4th Graders
Students entering 4th and 5th grades in September have the opportunity to start playing in our band and orchestra programs. They heard a presentation from Mrs. McConnell, Mrs. Mercer, and Mr. Dimmel last week and are invited to sign up with their top choices for instruments this week. Here is the link to the West Genesee Instrumental Music Slides, and here is a link to the Virtual Music Classroom. If you have any questions, please email mmercer@westgenesee.org, or emcconnell@westgenesee.org.
