Education Fair A Success

Education Fair
The Education Fair was another huge success this year! We had over 120 students participate, completing over 80 science and reading projects. Thank you to everyone that was able to attend the Education Fair as well as to all of the parents that helped support their children in putting together a project. Thank you to Mrs. Diddle for putting this short video together!
Positivity Project
This week's character strength focus is fairness. Fairness means you believe that all people have value. You approach situations with an unbiased mindset and tret everyone with respect. Cultivating the character strength of fairness helps people to become trustworthy friends, responsible citizens, and generally moral people. To learn more about the character strength of fairness, click here. Yesterday, groups pictures were taken of students and staff according to their top strength. Pictured below is Fairness.
Student Council Paper Towel Drive
The Student Council ran a very successful paper towel drive for the Francis House. The idea for this project came from Nicole Tessier, a West Genesee High School Senior, who is the youth board Vice President at the Francis House. Thank you to everyone that contributed paper towels and/or financial donations. We collected 253 rolls of paper towels and over $300.00!
Survey Says!
An important part of our East Hill Vision is to continuously reflect on and look for ways to improve our practice. It would be really appreciated if you could take a few minutes to complete this short survey about our school. With your honest feedback we can work to improve the areas in need of improvement, and celebrate our areas of strength. Thank you for completing this anonymous survey!

Please Forgive Me!

Forgiveness
This week's character strength focus is forgiveness.  Forgiveness means you forgive those who have done wrong and you accept that people make mistakes. To quote Mahatma Gandhi, "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong." Those who demonstrate forgiveness have the ability to move forward after someone has hurt them. To learn more about the character strength focus of forgiveness, click here.

Love of Learning

Love of Learning
This week's character strength focus is Love of Learning. Love of Learning means you master new topics on your own or in school. Those with love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. For more information regarding this strength, click here.

Education Fair
Speaking of love of learning, the Education Fair is one week from today! Students are learning about a variety of topics and will be displaying their findings next Tuesday. Projects can be dropped off after school on Monday, 3/18, from 3:30 - 5:00, or on Tuesday, 3/19, from 7:30 - 8:30 am. Students will be able to view the projects during the day and families are invited to attend the evening fair from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.

Yearbook
The ordering deadline for this year's yearbook has been extended through March 22nd. You may still send the form and check to your child's teacher or go to www.ybpay.lifetouch.com, and search for our code under Camillus, then East Hill.

Merry Go Round

The Merry Go Round Theater presented A Fisherman and His Wife to our K-2 students on Monday. The students really enjoyed it. The moral of the story is appreciating everything we have is much more important than getting everything we want. A good reminder for all of us!

Attendance: Did you know?

  • Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.
  • Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back.
  • By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
  • As many as 8 million U.S. public school students struggle academically simply because they miss too much school.
Last week our entire 4th grade had perfect attendance one day, and the entire 5th grade was here on another day. Let's keep it going!

Box Tops!
Box tops are being accepted until March 25th. Please make sure they are cut out on the line and ensure that they haven't expired. Thank you!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Cheering on the Success of Others

Positivity Project
This week we return to the next Other People Matter Mindset element - cheering others success. The purpose of the Other People Matter Mindset weeks is to consistently remind students why they're learning to see these character strengths in themselves and others - to build positive relationships. There will be many opportunities to cheer on the success of others at East Hill this month, including the Education Fair, the 3rd Grade Chorus Concert, our 5th Grade Chorus singing the National Anthem at Friday's Syracuse Crunch game, and BINGO!
Education Fair
The Education Fair is just two weeks away! This year's fair promises to be the biggest yet with 122 students participating, completing 50 science projects and 33 reading projects. Completed projects can be dropped off after school on Monday, 3/18 from 3:30 to 5:00, or on Tuesday, 3/19 from 7:30 - 8:30 am. Students will be able to view them during the day and families are invited to attend in the evening from 6:30 - 7:30. It should be a great evening!

3rd Grade Concert
Our third graders have been busy preparing for their spring concert. It will be held in the East Hill Gymnasium on 3/28 at 7:00. Students should arrive at 6:40.

BINGO!
Bingo will be held on Friday, 3/29 in the East Hill Gym. Doors open at 6:00 with Bingo beginning at 6:30. Bingo is free to play. Pizza, baked goods, and raffle tickets are $1.00 each. Raffle prizes include an American Girl Doll, Disneyworld Park Hopper passes, Lego Land tickets, Darien Lake passes, Syracuse Mets tickets, Wonderworks, 5 Wits, Sky Zone passes, and so much more. It should be a lot of fun!

100th Day of School
Last Thursday we celebrated the 100th day of school. Teachers and students alike dressed like they were 100 years old and students wrote what they would do when they turn 100.
