Another Year Over

It's hard to believe there are just a couple of days left to the 2015-2016 school year. We've had a busy couple of weeks here at East Hill. Cooperation is the character education trait for June. Our first graders did a wonderful job teaching the school about ways to cooperate and the value of cooperation.
Last Tuesday East Hill held its annual Flag Day Celebration. The students donned their patriotic clothes and hats and paraded around the neighborhood. They then gathered at the flag pole, listened to information about the history of Flag Day, heard the CMS band and some East Hill students play the National Anthem, and sang "It's a Grand Old Flag" along with the band. Thank you to Mr. Dimmel for bringing the CMS band again this year, and thank you to the PTA for providing the popsicles!

Last Wednesday Field Days was held. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. A big thank you goes out to Ms. O'Keefe for coordinating the day's events, and to all of the volunteers that helped to make it happen.

Also on Wednesday five West Genesee faculty presented an "Around the World" strings presentation to our third graders. They played songs from various countries and told a little bit out each one. Our students got to hear the different instruments as well as learn a little history at the same time.
Our fifth graders completed the final battle in the Battle of the Books program that they began in May. Thank you to Mrs. Glass for coordinating the event this year and thank you to Mrs. Fettig for lending a hand. This is a great way to keep students interested in reading good books.
Our fifth graders are headed to the Ultimate Goal today. The fifth grade recognition ceremony will be held on Wednesday at 9:30. Please remember that Tuesday and Wednesday are half-days with an 11:30 dismissal. If you pick up your children you should plan to arrive no earlier than 11:15 for an 11:20 parent pick-up.

The words of the day are weight (M), assist (T), and recognition.

I hope you have a wonderful summer!

Our Lemonade Serenade Volunteer Reception was held last Thursday. Thank you to all of our volunteers that help to make East Hill such a great place for our students, staff, and families. A big thank you goes out to the PTA for funding all of the field trips listed above and to Mrs. Mercer and the fifth grade strings students for serenading!
