East Hill Happenings

I'm Retiring!
My last school picture!
For those of you who have not yet heard, I will be officially retiring at the end of June after eleven years as principal here at East Hill. It is bittersweet for sure. I will miss the students and the staff tremendously, and will miss all of the wonderful families I have met over the years. My husband is also retiring at the end of June. We have purchased a home in Fort Myers, Florida where we plan to spend our winters. We will return to Camillus to enjoy the CNY summers. For now, we will likely spend the majority of our time hiking, biking, swimming, reading, and enjoying live (hopefully) music. I'd like to thank the East Hill staff for always being so amazing, the East Hill PTA for all of the support they have given me over the years, and thank all of the parents who have shared their precious children with me these past eleven years. Everyone will certainly be missed!

Jogathon
The jogathon is the largest East Hill PTA fundraiser of the year. Traditionally held in the fall, it has been moved to the spring due to COVID. This year will be a little different. Students will jog with their classmates during their designated gym time this week. Unfortunately, spectators will not be allowed this year. Donations will be collected exclusively online at this link. The PTA is excited to include all of the East Hill remote learners in the jogathon in their remote gym classes - just visit this link. Additional information was sent home last week. If you have any questions about the jogathon, please email wgehpta@westgenesee.org. Oh - I neglected to mention that the East Hill principal will apparently be slimed if the PTA meets their fundraising goal of $5000!

Positivity Project
This is the final week in the 2020-2021 P2 Calendar. We are focusing on the Other People Mindset. This mindset consists of the five elements intended to help people understand ways to build positive relationships in their lives: identifying and appreciating the good in others, knowing my words and actions affect others, supporting others when they struggle, cheering others' successes, and being present and giving others my attention. Mask Use
You may have heard that the CDC now says it is safe for fully vaccinated people to take their masks off in most indoor settings. The agency was not specific about the wearing of masks in some settings, including schools.  Additionally, the CDC advice does not override mask orders issued by states, counties, or cities. Therefore, students and staff will continue with our mask expectations:
  • Wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth on the bus and in the school, other than during scheduled mask breaks and while seated eating breakfast and lunch. Please remind your children that masks need to cover their nose.
  • Mask breaks will be provided by teachers throughout the day during seated, independent work time.
  • If a student forgets a mask, the district has disposable masks to provide.
If anything changes at the school level regarding masks, we will certainly let you know! Thank you.

Instrument Selection for 3rd & 4th Graders
Students entering 4th and 5th grades in September have the opportunity to start playing in our band and orchestra programs. They heard a presentation from Mrs. McConnell, Mrs. Mercer, and Mr. Dimmel last week and are invited to sign up with their top choices for instruments this week. Here is the link to the West Genesee Instrumental Music Slides, and here is a link to the Virtual Music Classroom. If you have any questions, please email mmercer@westgenesee.org, or emcconnell@westgenesee.org.
