PARP Has Begun!

PARP Begins!
Yesterday was the kick-off for our two-week PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) celebration. This year's theme is "Paws for Reading". Your child(ren) should have brought home information about this celebration yesterday. During these two weeks we encourage students to turn off the electronics and instead spend time reading books and participating in reading-related activities. A calendar of ideas was included in the information that you received.

We have a lot of fun things planned for students related to the theme here at school including a photo both, fun facts about cats and dogs, guest readers, special spirit days, teacher switch and read day,  daily DEAR time (students drop everything and read when they hear the song, "Who Let the Dogs Out?" on the PA system), a Book Fair, and a closing ceremony, complete with "Pup"sicles from the PTA. It should be a lot of fun.

Halloween
Keeping school safety at the forefront of our decision-making, thank you for understanding that West Genesee elementary schools will no longer hold outdoor Halloween costume parades.  We will, however, continue to have classroom parties where student Halloween costumes are encouraged but optional. Halloween parties will be on Halloween Day, October 31 at 2:15.  ONLY parent volunteers who are working at the parties will be permitted into the building.  We will have a list of the approved volunteers and will begin letting people into the building at 2:00 to set up for the parties. We invite all interested families to attend the district-sponsored Halloween Carnival being held on Monday, October 29, 2018, from 4:00-7:30 p.m. at West Genesee High School.  All are welcome!  You will receive additional information about the carnival soon.
We do know that Halloween is not celebrated by all of our students. This year we will have an alternate activity planned for those students who would prefer not to attend the classroom celebration.
