East Hill Update

Winter Break
I hope you enjoyed the winter break! I was able to catch up on my reading, do some small projects (like cleaning drawers - exciting stuff!), and tried snowshoeing for the first time. Wow! It's a lot harder than it looks!
Cheering on the Success of Others
This week we are focusing on the Other People Mindset of Cheer on Others' Success. This means that when other people succeed, you are happy for them and cheer them on. According to the Positivity Project, being happy for other people when they succeed isn't always everyone's initial reaction. Often, it's easy to become jealous or envious of others' victories. It's important to note that these are natural emotions and in small doses can be helpful in allowing us to see what we care about - and motivate us to pursue those goals.

And The People Stayed Home
The East Hill staff recently read the book, "And The People Stayed Home" written by Kitty O'Meara.  The book, according to the Washington Post, is a gentle and hopeful look back on life in quarantine. It portrays lockdown as a patient, introspective time when people read and danced and "listened more deeply." We created our own version of the book titled,  "And the East Hill Staff Stayed Home." Here is a link to the book!
Board of Education Hosts Listening Session (Rescheduled)
The West Genesee Central School District Board of Education (BOE) invites parents, staff, community members, and students to a rescheduled Community Listening Session to be held in the West Genesee High School Library on Wednesday, March 3, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. (prior to the BOE meeting that will start at 7:00 p.m.) The guiding question for this is: "What are your hopes and dreams for WGCSD?" Please consider joining this session and offering your thoughts. Those who would like to come to the library and participate will need to pre-register by filling out the RSVP from the invitation here. It will also be livestreamed so anyone can watch from the link on the website or by clicking here

Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for the 2021-2022 school year opened virtually on December 1, 2020 and will remain open until March 31, 2021. Parents and guardians may utilizthe Virtual Registration process to get started and schedule your telemeeting. If you have any questions, please call the Central Registration office at (315) 487-4683.

Have a great rest of the week!

Love is in the Air!

Love
Love is this week's character strength focus. Love means you value close relationships with others and value being close to people. The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships. To read more about the character strength of love, click here

Valentine's Treats For Remote Students
Thank you to the PTA for providing all of the East Hill students with a Valentine's treat! They are going to love them!  Remote students can pick up their valentine this Thursday, 2/11, between 2:45 and 3:30 at East Hill. Please call the office if this time does not work for you.

Chipotle Night this Wednesday!
Do you love burritios? Our PTA is holding a Chipotle Night fundraiser this Wednesday, February 10th, from 4:00 - 8:00 at the Camillus location. A portion (33%) of the earnings will support our PTA and school. Just mention East Hill when your order in store or show them the flyer that is coming home today. You will also be able to place orders online with the Chipotle app using the promo code R8WXF3K before checkout. The PTA loves your support! Click here for more details
Super Bowl Food Drive
Thank you for the tremendous community support and generosity for the Super Bowl Food Drive. A total of 227 food items were donated. The items will be boxed with the help of the Girl Scouts and donated to West Genesee families in need of support over the winter break. The winner? Well, it appears a little more love was shown to the Kansas City Chiefs over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it was close! Unfortunately, in my opinion, the actual winner was not Kansas City. (I don't personally have much love for Tom Brady!)

Coloring Contest
Thank you to everyone that participated in the PTAs coloring contest! I love the effort and creativity shown in the pictures. The winners for each grade level are shown below.
Audra P., Kindergarten

Aiden A., 1st Grade

Abigail A., 2nd Grade

Marian B., 3rd Grade
Bohdan H., 4th Grade

All of the contest submissions, along with the 2nd and 3rd place winners, can be found on the East Hill PTA Facebook page.

Are You Missing an Amazon Package?
A package was recently delivered to one of the PTA people in charge of Community Giving. It was likely from a person who ordered something for Community Giving and didn't change their address back on the Amazon site. If you are missing something, please let me know. Thanks!

Upcoming Events:
2/8    PTA Meeting, 6:30 - 7:30
2/10  Chipotle Night
2/15  Winter Break
2/22  School Resumes

Have a great week, and a great winter break!

Integrity

Integrity
This week's character strength focus is integrity. Integrity means you are honest and speak the truth. You present yourself genuinely and sincerely. Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching. For more about the character strength of integrity, click here

Supporting Others When They Struggle
Last week we focused on the other people matter mindset: supporting others when they struggle. Mrs. Ciciarelli's remote kindergarten class watched a video about Fred Rodgers and discussed his quote, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." They all made cards for St. Joe's COVID unit. Thank you Mrs. Ciciarelli!

BOE Listening Session
The WGCSD Board of Education invites parents, staff, community members and students to a Community Listening Session on Wednesday, February 3rd from 6:00 - 7:00. The guiding question for this is: "What are your hopes and dreams for WGCSD?" Please consider joining this session and offering your thoughts.
If you'd like to attend the event in person you need to register in advance. It will also be livestreamed so anyone can watch from the website. Click here to read an invitation and RSVP to the BOE Listening Session.
