Out with the Old(er) and In with the New!

I hope you are enjoying a nice start to your summer! We have been very busy these past two days at East Hill meeting and screening the incoming class of 2031! Hard to believe! Students participated in a variety of activities that help us to get to know them better. Here are just a few pictures from this morning.

Just last week we bid farewell to our fifth graders. It was bittersweet for many of us. It's hard to say goodbye to students that we have known for six years and some families that we have known for a very long time! We wish them the best at Camillus Middle School!

Last week we also held our final Positivity Project Assembly of the year. Students identified their top strength and group photos were taken. These can be seen below. We feel the Positivity Project has made a significant impact on our students and are looking forward to continuing to learn more about it next year!

Field Day Fun!

What a beautiful day we have had for our field days today! It could not have been more perfect! Thank you to Ms. O'Keefe for organizing such a great event for our students once again. Thank you also to everyone that volunteered their time helping out at one of the stations. Here are just a few pictures from the day:

Last Friday was the second annual "Senior Walk" where the graduating seniors visit their elementary schools. The elementary students line the halls and cheer them on as they parade through the school. It's a good thing the seniors had nametags on as they have changed so much! It was a great event for our young students as well as for the seniors and, especially, our teachers!
Mrs. Tynan with Griffin, one of her former kindergartners.
Mrs. MacArthur with a previous student.

Miss Button with one of her former fourth-graders.

Mrs. Hesler with her very first class (and their class gift they made).
Yesterday we held our final CODE assembly of the year. The fifth grade essay winners (mentioned in last week's blog) read their essays about why they want to remain drug and alcohol free. The winners of the fourth grade internet safety poster contest were also announced.

Remaining Dates:
6/15 Fourth Grade Salt Museum Field Trip and Fifth Grade Ultimate Goal
6/18 Piano Recital
6/20 Half Day, 11:30 Dismissal, 9:30 Fifth Grade Recognition Ceremony
6/21 Half Day, 11:30 Dismissal, Report Cards Distributed.

Have a great rest of the week!

The Final Weeks for Fifth Grade

It's hard to believe this fifth grade class will be leaving us in just a couple weeks. They have been keeping very busy. Last week they participated in the annual egg drop challenge with Lockheed Martin. Students worked in groups to construct an apparatus that would prevent an egg from breaking when dropped from ten feet. All but three groups were successful!

Several of our fifth grade girls, along with several fourth grade girls, participated in East Hill's Girls on the Run Program. Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization that works to encourage girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles.  The program culminates in a 5K race which the girls all raced in this past weekend. They all did a great job!

On Friday, Officer Brand came to announce the winners of the CODE Essay Contest. Students did a lot of research on the effects of drugs and alcohol and wrote a speech about why they plan to remain alcohol and drug free. The winners will read their essays at next week's CODE assembly.

Yesterday the whole school was treated to the 5th grade talent show! Wow! These fifth graders certainly have bravery, teamwork and creativity as their top character strengths. They were amazing!

Our annual Lemonade Serenade Volunteer Reception is this morning at 11:00. We hope to see you there! Tomorrow morning the West Genesee High School seniors that attended East Hill will be doing their second annual "Senior Walk" through the halls. It will be an exciting time for sure!

Have a great rest of the week!
